Guest of Honor:KATHE KOJA
Kathe Koja, born in Detroit, started writing seriously after attending
the Clarion Workshop for science fiction and fantasy. She is the author
of the Bram Stoker and Locus Award-winning first novel Cypher; the adult
novels Bad Brains, Skin, Strange Angels (a Deathrealm Award winner),
Kink, Under the Poppy, and The Mercury Waltz, the young adult novels,
Straydog, Buddha Boy, The Blue Murder, Talk, Going Under, Kissing the
Bee, and Headlong; the story collection Extremities; and many
uncollected stories. Her novels and stories often concern characters who
have been marginalized by society, and the transcendence and/or
disintegration that follows their social isolation. Kathe Koja is
married to illustrator Rick Lieder, who often does her book jackets.
Kathe Koja is founding director of Nerve, a Detroit-based immersive
theater company. Her works have been highlighted at Michigan State
University in their Michigan Writers' Series. She loves puppets.
